Today is day 10, and while Mia is recovering, the focus has shifted slightly. The BackaBudy campaign knocked our socks off! We went up to 76% of the goal!  

Today, day nine, the infection is still there with the vacuum dressing intact. It will stay for a few more days. Her liver shows signs of further recovery. Then the unexpected happened, and we are so grateful for that: Savanna Douglas from the Good Things Guy saw one of the shared posts. She acted, wrote

Today, day eight, started with a bit of infection at the site where the pacemaker was inserted, and the dressing on the wound was changed. Also, her liver shows signs of recovering.     Martin also made a plea in the family & friends WhatsApp group for financial support, referring to the Back a Buddy

Today is a quiet day for Mia and the family, and the focus is on recovery.

Day six for Mia’s, and she wakes up after surgery. All focus is simply still on recovery. A video

Day five of Mia’s life, and it is a slow day! Mia mostly slept through the day. A video  

Day four of Mia’s life, and the recovery begins after she received her pacemaker! There are so many uncertainties at this time, but the family takes it day by day.  

Day three of Mia’s life, and she received her pacemaker this morning! She went into the theatre around 08:00 and was out after 10:00. Doctors are still monitoring, but her little heart is doing so much better already. She is on a ventilator because of some fluids in the lungs.  

On her second day, the doctors decided that a pacemaker would be the solution. Mia has an enlarged liver. The operation was originally scheduled for late afternoon and then was postponed to the next morning.     A video

Mia was born today, the 1st of July 2026, at 08:00, Welcome, Mia! She weighed in at 3.92kg. She came into the world with a complete heart block and a pulse of only 40. Over a few hours, it went up to 60. Doctors will assess her health and decide on the way forward.
